GREAT JAZZ VOCALIST FROM PARIS AT THE HARWOOD

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Tuesday, July 9, 2013

Leslie Lewis is all a good jazz singer should be. Her beautiful tone and classy phrasing evoke the sound of the classic jazz singers like Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan. Leslie Lewis' vocals are complimented perfectly by her husband, Gerard Hagen, and his trio, and special guest Gary Foster on sax.

GREAT JAZZ VOCALIST FROM PARIS AT THE HARWOOD

Taos, N.M. —The Harwood Museum of Art will host Leslie Lewis Thursday, August 8, 7 p.m. in the Arthur Bell Auditorium. Lewis will be accompanied by her stellar quartet including pianist Gerard Hagen, Jon Gagan on bass and Cal Haines on drums. Leslie Lewis and her husband Gerard Hagen are based in Paris. The event is presented in collaboration with producers Victoria Rogers and Cal Haines.

In 2011 Lewis and Hagen followed the critical success of their previous recordings by releasing “Midnight Sun,” their third CD. Their first recording, “Of Two Minds,” was released in 2008 and features Lewis with the Gerard Hagen Trio and several of Los Angeles' finest jazz musicians including Gary Foster, Ron Stout and Larry Koonse. In 2010 Lewis and Hagen released a follow up recording “Keeper Of The Flame” which features Brazilian Jazz music. It debuted at #15 on the CMJ national radio report and has been programmed on Sirius XM radio. “Of Two Minds” and “Keeper Of The Flame” have received international radio airplay and have been featured on several syndicated radio shows including “Jazz With Bob Parlocha” and “Jazz After Hours.”

Lewis has performed as a featured vocalist with the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra, and with members of the Duke Ellington Orchestra at a Ellington tribute concert. She has performed around the world in many top venues including the Palais Des Congrès, Jazz Club Etoile, Hôtel de Crillon in Paris; the Royal College of Music in London; the Joyce Theatre in New York; and at the Smothers Theatre, Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts and L.A. County Art Museum in Los Angeles. The Harwood Museum of Art is excited to bring this top world talent to Taos.

This concert marks the debut of the Harwood Jazz Society, a group dedicated to supporting jazz programming at the Harwood Museum of Art. For a $50 annual membership fee, Harwood Jazz Society members enjoy early admission to the Museum’s jazz concerts for best seat selection, post-concert receptions, and the knowledge that they are making the Museum’s jazz concerts possible.
