Expansion
The Harwood Museum of Art is building the future! In December 2010 we'll debut a museum expansion that increases the size of our building by 10,700 square feet and greatly enhances the museum's ability to "bring Taos arts to the world and world arts to Taos." The transformed museum will feature a new gallery, an auditorium equipped with high-definition projection and surround sound, and a greatly expanded and upgraded collection storage space. The museum will host a reception for major supporters of the project on December 9, followed by a preview for Harwood Museum Alliance members on December 10 and a free, fun-filled Community Open House coinciding with the Lighting of Ledoux event on December 11.
INCREASED GALLERY SPACE
The new 1,150 sq. ft. Mandelman-Ribak Gallery honors the legacy of Louis Ribak and Beatrice Mandelman, two long-time Taos artists who were part of the Taos Moderns movement. The gallery will show works from the museum's permanent collection and will feature changing curated exhibitions.
ARTHUR BELL AUDITORIUM
The new addition will include much needed auditorium space for lectures, concerts, performances, and presentations. Seating will be flexible, and the room can be acoustically tuned depending on the function. The space will also be available for receptions and openings.
DOUBLING COLLECTION STORAGE SPACE
Storage space for the museum's collection will be doubled, and a new, high-tech, compact storage system will be installed. Improved security and a new HVAC system will ensure the preservation of our growing collection.
